Bill Roemer's job as a physical education teacher in the South Colonie Central School District was eliminated due to recent budget cuts. Without a teaching position, he decided to step down as varsity football coach.
Members of the community showed their support in an attempt to save Roemer's teaching job.
Roemer thanked his players and assistant coaches in an email announcing his resignation. He also thanked the community members who fought to save his job.
