What We Learned on Friday Night...and What We're Waiting On

We're halfway through the final group of regular season games and a few things have officially fallen into place now. A few teams clinched divisional titles and sectional berths and we even have a pretty good idea of who will be playing who in the quarterfinals next week.

Now, keep in mind that the OFFICIAL seedings aren't released until Sunday, so this is just my math. I'm pretty sure it's right, but there's my disclaimer.

Under the cut, check out who's in, who's out and what's still up in the air.

Lansingburgh Football Celebrates One of Its Own

It's Coaches vs. Cancer week in the Section II football world and while some schools are selling t-shirts or trying to raise awareness, the Lansingburgh squad is using the event to honor one of their own.

Mike Ryan, a '96 Lansingburgh grad and letterman in football, bowling and baseball, passed away this past August after fighting a battle with cancer.

On Friday, the Knights honored Ryan by wearing and selling t-shirts with "Bacco Strong," combining Ryan's nickname and his admiration of Colts coach Chuck Pagano's battle with cancer with last season.

"I said we've got to do something," 'Burgh coach Jeff Pasinella, who played football with Ryan, said. "We came up with the idea for the shirts and it was great."

Ryan's family was in the stands on Friday night as the Knights clinched a sectional berth with a 42-35 victory over Albany Academy. Also, in the stands was Ryan's father Ernie, who is the president of the Lansingburgh Pop Warner. Several of Ernie's former players wore the t-shirts under the game jerseys as well.

"Coach Ryan gave all the coaches one of the shirts and a few of the kids that he coached in Pop Warner wore them," Pasinella said. "He was a good friend of my family for a long time so it was nice that we were able to do something."

Large Schools (Class AA-A): here

Let's Play a Game of "What If"

You know when you were a little kid and you used to always ask a question, get an answer and follow up with "Well what if we did this?" or even better "What if this happened instead?"

Nine times out of ten, your parents would tell you to stop asking so many questions and that always asking "what if" would eventually lead you down a slippery slope of no final answer.

Well, I am here to change all of that! At least when it comes to Section II football standings heading into the final week of the regular season. So, I've taken the taboo out of the "What If?" question. Let's ask. And ask again. And ask about what will happen to our team if this happens and that happens and this other team loses.

Under the cut check out a breakdown for all of the teams that The Record covers. Essentially, if we did a preseason preview on you - you're mentioned. It's all broken down into Class and then Division with the listings of who already clinched a number one seed if that's already happened. For an added bonus, I've included the current divisional record for all of the squads. Go find your team and then see what everyone else needs to do for y'all to have the BEST WEEKEND EVER.
