The NYS Federation Tournament of CHAMPIONS
You thought basketball season was over, didn't you? Psych.
We've got one final weekend of competition left and - thankfully for my car - it's all local. The New York State Federation Tournament of Champions will be held this weekend, from Friday through Sunday, at the Times Union Center in downtown Albany.
Now, I'll be the first to admit I didn't know too much about the Federation, so I thought maybe you guys would also be interested in a little history.
Originally the Federation Tournament was referred to as the Super Sixteen tournament where all four associations (NYSPHSAA, PSAL, NYSCHSAA and NYSAIS) competed in four classes (A, B, C, and D).
In 2000 though, the Federation Tournament evolved into the format we're slightly more accustomed to. Then, in 2004, the tournament cut down again and brought in only the three classes that are competing now - AA, A and B.
Now, Section II - being as awesome as it is - has three different teams competing this weekend. The Troy girls, Watervliet & Albany Academy boys will be fighting for the ULTIMATE bragging rights across the state. Underneath the cut, you can check out the brackets for the weekend and plan where to be over the three days of competition.
